During the evening sessions, Reverend Ryan Mowen, pastor of Church of the Atonement in Silver Spring, Maryland, presented a series of messages on the Although the phrase “union with Christ” does not explicitly appear in Scrip- ture, Mowen emphasized that the doctrine is woven throughout the biblical narrative and is a foundational theme of the Christian faith. Drawing from Ephesians 1:4–6, Mowen explained that believers are “cho- sen in Christ,” highlighting God’s sovereign grace in salvation. He encouraged attendees to move beyond a casual understanding of their relationship with Christ and develop a deeper appreciation for the profound gift of union and communion with Him.
Focusing on Ephesians 1:7–10, Mowen explored the themes of redemption
and forgiveness. He reminded attendees that forgiveness was secured at a great depth of their own sin, Christ knows it completely and has provided redemp- tion through His grace.
Concluding with Ephesians 1:11–14, Mowen highlighted the believer’s eter- nal inheritance in Christ. He emphasized that this inheritance is secured and forgive others, and persevere through suffering, knowing that present trials are temporary. Mowen concluded by encouraging attendees not to lose sight of the glorious inheritance they have in Christ and to live in light of the eternal hope that is theirs through Him.
Morning Bible Study Reverend Matt Lucas, pastor of Reformation ARP Church in Hendersonville, North Carolina, led the morning sessions on what it means to abide in Christ as the Body of Christ. Throughout his messages, Lucas emphasized the impor- tance of unity, worship, service, and discipleship as essential expressions of life within the church.
In the opening session, Lucas focused on Christ’s promise to build His church and the importance of maintaining unity within the Body of Christ. Drawing from Ephesians 4:3, he challenged attendees to be intentional and passion- threaten unity and encouraged believers instead to cultivate an appreciation for diversity, a commitment to mutual maturity, and a Christ-like pattern of purity. The following morning, Lucas turned his attention to worship, emphasizing that God is worthy of worship because of His greatness, grace, and holiness. He then encouraged attendees to recognize the many opportunities God provides to serve. Christians are called to serve as members of one body, using their in- dividual gifts with humility, love, and faithfulness. Lucas reminded attendees of the importance of putting those gifts into practice for the good of the church and the blessing of others. - ples.
