ow are investor relations officers (IROs) using artificial intelligence? In more ways than you might expect. A recent survey of NIRI Virtual IRC Lounge partici- pants found that 37% of IROs are using AI. Te top uses
are drafting scripts, summarizing research, and administrative tasks. Benefits include simplification of complex topics, generating new ideas, and saving time. Of course there are some concerns – accuracy, privacy, and compliance with Regulation FD are chief among them. Gaining management support and resources to develop AI applications remains a challenge, yet 25% of IROs say management is support- ing these efforts. As they continue to experiment with AI, many IROs see further benefits in targeting, sentiment analysis, developing Q&A docu- ments, and more. “As a finance professional, I have found that ChatGPT is a great
idea generator and has greatly assisted me in quickly crafting written content,” says Chris Symanoskie, IRC, Vice President of Corporate Communications at Atomic Biometrics. “My colleagues are also rapidly becoming skilled AI users, gaining critical insights that ac- celerate their IR practices and give them a competitive advantage.” Gregg Lampf, IRC, Vice President of Investor Relations at Ciena
Corporation, adds, “It’s your imagination that’s going to drive your passion and where you’re going to find opportunities using genera- tive AI. It’s about experimenting, talking to other people, and finding online resources to learn how to use these tools responsibly.” Lampf cautioned that there are many AI programs that are not
secure and he encouraged IROs to use enterprise versions of AI programs that include security features to protect privacy. With this security, many programs allow users to upload documents to provide fodder for gaining the best AI insights.
