LETTER FROM THE CEO

New Membership Offering and Strategic Planning

IT’S BEEN A COUPLE OF BUSY MONTHS HERE AT NALP, AND there is a lot to be excited about. With that said, I have two items I wanted to share some deeper insights with you. The first is our new benefit for NALP members; the second is the strategic planning that is currently taking place here at NALP. So, let’s get started.

TWO TRAINING PROGRAMS NOW INCLUDED IN NALP MEMBERSHIP By now, I hope you have noticed a big change we have made to our membership offerings. Notably, we have included our Landscape Technician Training, as well as our Business Manager Training, as part of your membership. Now you may be asking, what does that mean, “included…as part of your membership?” Well, it means you can put everyone in your organization through these training courses and we won’t charge you a dime. It is included in our membership fees. Pretty cool, huh? Why did we do this? Two

primary reasons. First, our role as the association for this great industry is to help it continue to improve. We believe that making this training part of your membership allows more of our members to access the training, which we believe will help raise the level of professionalism in our industry. Second, we always want to ensure that we are giv-

ing you maximum value for your dues dollar, and we believe this adds a tremendous amount of value to your NALP membership. So, if you haven’t done so

already, check out our website for more information so you can access this new member benefit.

STRATEGIC PLANNING In late March and early April, you may have seen an email from NALP asking you to share your thoughts on what NALP needs to do to continue to be valuable for this industry. We asked over 3,000 of you for your opinions. If you were kind enough to fill out the survey, thank you. We really do appreciate you sharing your thoughts with us. So, why did we survey so many

of you, and what are we planning to do with the information? Well, those are good questions, so let me tackle them quickly for you. We surveyed so many people as we wanted to be sure we got a true representation of how the industry feels and what you all perceive to be valuable. By getting so much feedback, we

are better able to identify and validate trends in your thinking. Our hope is that by identifying and validating, we will have better direction on where you want NALP to go. And that is what we are using this information for, to give our board of directors the best possible information so they can make the best possible decisions on the strategy that NALP will implement over the next several years. Here’s how the process has

worked and will work in the future. Our consultant has gath- ered the data and identified the trends for the board to consider. At their meeting in early May, they identified topics that the staff needs to focus on. Over the next several months, the staff will take these topics and develop a plan for how we are going to ad- dress them, including milestones for what needs to get done and when. So, stay tuned as I will be using this column to give you updates on how this strategic planning is progressing and what you can look forward to from your association.
