LEADERSHIP Editorial
Kathryn Lebby, CAE, CMP APT President/CEO
Play therapists represent a small group of dedicated mental health professionals that harness the therapeutic powers of play to help children and families all over the world. According to the Association for Play Therapy (APT) annual survey, members value opportunities to network with and learn from one another. We often hear members say that fellow APT members are their professional family.
In the wake of the global coronavirus pandemic, play therapists have been challenged to continue meeting the mental health needs of the children and families they serve while maintaining health safeguards for all concerned. linking members to best practices for playroom sanitation and disinfection and telemental health for children. For RPT/S and SB-RPT renewals between March 15, 2020 and June 30, 2020, APT will accept non-contact hours for all 18 hours of play therapy continuing education. Our standards remain the same, but this exception should help registrants succeed in the quest for knowledge and skill development that will keep their credentials active.
We look forward to welcoming attendees to the 37th Annual Conference from October 1-6, 2020 in Palm Springs, California. We hope these new dates will allow you and your colleagues to reunite under conditions that will allow you to learn from and share with one another in the spirit of community and professional family you have built over the years. We realize that however this health crisis affects our personal or professional families, we are all in this together. The APT staff remain ready to answer your questions by phone or email. We are here for you, and we thank you!
