WINNING ENTRY { ARCHITECTURE } SEEING THE LIGHT by Dr. Jay Hodge, Kansas City


THE ARCHITECTURE CATEGORY HAD 10 ENTRIES. After previous entries, this was Dr. Hodge’s first time winning a category. Dr. Hodge (UMKC 76) took this image in 2016 when he and his wife, Jill, traveled to Barcelona, Spain. “While visiting the Segrada Familia Basilica, this view presented itself—natural light through the stained glass was bathing the irregular surfaces of the interior walls, creating a surreal ef-


fect,” said Dr. Hodge. “This church has been under construction for most of the last 135 years. It is 70 percent finished, with 2022 slated as the completion year (maybe).” When asked about something he enjoys or values related to member- ship, he said, “For the last two years, I have been a part of the ADA’s Success Program, which allows me to speak at dental schools throughout the country on a variety of subjects. I especially enjoy discussing practice management— and hopefully providing encouragement—to our next wave of peers.”
