Because periodontal scaling and root planing claims tend to have a higher fre- quency for denial than other procedures, the ADA has resources available to help dentists and their dental office staff with the claim process regarding scaling and root planing—including when claims are denied. For example, a 20-page manual titled Responding to Claim Rejections is available at Success.ADA.org and includes a section devoted to scaling and root planing. Dentists and their teams can find additional information on dental benefits at ADA.org/dentalbenefits. Staff from the Center for Dental Benefits, Coding and Quality also can help dentists with dental benefits-related problems, questions and concerns. For questions regarding denial of claims, email dentalbenefits@ada.org. Similarly, D4355–ADA Guide to reporting full mouth debridement is the new, free guide available online on the ADA’s Coding Education page at ADA.org/cdt. It answers many questions, starting with “How do I document what I did to determine that a full mouth debridement is necessary?” For questions about the guide or the CDT Code email dentalcode@ada.org.
