ADA, CVS Partnership Highlights ADA Seal
T
he ADA and CVS Pharmacy announced a three-year oral health
collaboration in January, which includes continuous in-store and digital awareness of the ADA and ADA Seal of Accep- tance to help millions of people improve their oral and overall health. Dental care products that have received the ADA Seal of Acceptance—from mouth rinses, toothbrushes, toothpastes, floss/interdental cleaners and sugar-free gum—will be easily visible whether people are visiting CVS in-store, online or browsing through promotional flyers. Consumers visiting a CVS store also will be provided with credible oral health information and encouraged to find and visit the dentist through the ADA’s Find-A-Dentist online resource.
Promotions kicked off with a full-page ad in the January 28 CVS circular that announced the collaboration to customers. In mid-March, store signage promoting oral health information and ADA Seal products will go on display. Seasonal programs to connect oral health with holidays and health awareness months will start this summer.
Because of the campaign and increased messaging about the ADA Seal, dentists and dental team members may be fielding more patient questions about the ADA Seal. To facilitate discussion, there is a new 360° video experience that can be used as a hands-on teaching tool to:
Educate patients about what the Seal is and what it means. Explain what types of products can carry the Seal. In addition to products like toothpastes and rinses, the Seal can now be found on items such as power toothbrushes, powered interdental cleaners and at-home bleach- ing products. Seal-accepted products also extend beyond the bathroom to things like water filters, mouthguards and chewing gum.
Discuss how these proven products can be used to support the oral health recommendations made by the dentist during the visit.
The Seal also may be especially helpful for patients who are caring for family members, both younger and older. Sixty-nine percent of caregivers say they’re more likely to look for the Seal and that it simplifies the decisions they have to make in the dental aisle.

Download the latest version of YouTube on a mobile device and view the video from there. Patients will be able to “drive” the panoramic video however they like by simply moving the screen around.
For a full 360 experience, dental teams can provide a virtual reality view- ing device, such as cardboard glasses.

Is Your Office Compliant
How should hazardous chemicals in the office be labeled and who’s responsible for doing it? Which dental office staff members are required to receive Hepatitis B vaccinations? Do all offices need an evacuation plan? The ADA has resources online at
bit.ly/2DmDXeB to help practice own- ers answer these and other regulatory ques- tions related to occupational safety. In addition MDA component societies are offering annual OSHA courses this spring and summer, including Greater Springfield (April 13); and, Greater Kansas City (June 8).
Amalgam Recycling Rule
The Amalgam Rule is now in effect. If you’re an established office you have up to the year 2020 to comply; however, if you’re a brand new office your requirement to comply is immediate. The ADA has a we- binar titled Amalgam Recycling Rule Webinar: Does This Affect My Practice? along with other important compliance information and dates online at

Contract Signing Resources In the wake of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts’ February announcement that it has expanded its national network—making it one of the largest dental networks in the country—the ADA Council on Dental Benefit Programs is reminding dentists of the many resources the ADA has when it comes to signing network contracts. The ADA has created a land- ing page for dental benefits resources that can help dentists address and resolve even their most vexing questions,
ADA.org/dentalbenefits, part of the Center for Professional Success. Additionally, the ADA Contract Analysis Service—part of the ADA Division of Legal Affairs—is available free of charge to members who request a review of a contract through their constituent dental society. For information visit
