BUILD CALIFORNIA

or 2020 the same way we did 20 years ago. We need to reach and engage Gen Z where they are and how they like to receive information, in a way that is technology forward and easily acces- sible on their phones and other mobile devices – and I’m proud to say that Build California does that.”

Why Now is the Time So why exactly is now the perfect

time to drive change? Simply put, our industry can’t wait. We must start NOW being effective in our efforts to develop a steady, motivated, and skilled workforce pipeline and meet the demand for California construction professionals. To do this, we have to change perceptions about the 21st-century construction industry and provide real-time access to infor- mation and opportunities for economic advancement in order to effectively increase the number of construction professionals for years to come. Developing our workforce isn’t

just a pillar of AGC of California’s mission; it’s essential to the future of our state. It’s an issue that impacts our members and requires us to think differently about how to attract the next generation. We’ve spent more than a year developing Build California to be a targeted, nimble, and impactful initiative with a single focus: creating a steady, motivated and skilled workforce pipeline for California’s construction industry.

Leading the Charge AGC of California is well

positioned to lead this charge. Why? AGC is the only statewide construction association mission focused on the development of our workforce – and thus the delivery of workforce development programs and services for our members and the construction industry at large. AGC CEF (our 501c3 nonprofit

affiliate) has been operating workforce development programs and initiatives and developing long standing partner-

ships across the state for nearly 20 years, since the Foundation was estab- lished in 2000. Tis uniquely positions us to serve as a major conduit and connector for construction workforce development efforts across the state. We want Build California to serve as the universal “brand” for construction career awareness and recruitment into the industry and as the direct connector to the local apprenticeship, training and college programs across the state. Additionally, we want AGC

members and other partners across multiple markets in California to have access to and be able to utilize our Build California materials, no matter what school or community they are working with/in. We have built a strong Build

California coalition with four founders spearheading the program devel- opment: AGC of California, the AGC Construction Education Foundation, LCPTracker, and Procore. Additional coalition partners and supporters represent all areas of the industry. Tey include AGC members, public agencies, private owners, associations, unions, apprenticeship programs, and other non-profits focused on and committed to developing the next generation of skilled, effective and motivated construction workforce.
