a conference orientation and various training seminars. Tis year’s seminars covered everything from creating safety plans to technology in the workplace, to what to expect during your first five years on the job. Tese seminars were followed
by a working lunch, where students broke into groups and discussed topics such as developing student chapter leadership succession plans, to the direction they felt the industry was moving, to discussing what their greatest fears were once they started a career in construction. After a working lunch, student chapters were given the opportunity to meet, discuss what the seminars they attended, and talk about what they learned. In previous years, the education seminars at the AGC Annual
Conference were spread throughout the event. Tis year, they were all moved to Tursday, October 12 and split into applicable tracks (i.e., technology & innovation, project management, etc.) so that everyone could easily identify which seminars would best apply to their interests. Te students took full advantage of the day and attended as many seminars as they could, learning more about subjects ranging from “drones in construction” to “change orders for project engineers” among many other topics.
Job Fair and AGC/CLC Competition
On Friday, October 13, students
spent the morning meeting with potential employers at the AGC Student Chapter Job Fair. During this event students distributed their resumes, spoke with company repre-
sentatives, and set up interviews. With over 20 companies in attendance, the job fair provided a tremendous oppor- tunity for the students as well as the companies looking to meet future workforce needs. Later that afternoon students and AGC CLC members joined together for a friendly, fun-filled jenga competition following attendance at the AGC State Board meeting. Once again, the students injected a
dynamic new atmosphere at the AGC of California Annual Conference for 2017. Afforded the opportunity to network with and learn from one another as well as interact with many of the state’s top construction leaders, the students walked away with an increased awareness of the issues and trends that are shaping the state’s construction industry, both today and in the future.
