Around the State MBA CHAIRMAN’S AWARD Honorees 2022


The Missouri Bankers Association Chairman’s Award is the highest honor MBA can bestow on an individual. Two bankers were recognized with this distinguished honor at MBA’s 132nd Annual Convention in June.


Esther George, president and chief executive officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, was honored with the MBA Chairman’s Award on Tursday, June 9, during MBA’s 132nd Annual Convention at the Hilton Branson Convention Center.


“Esther has been a constant, steady presence in our industry,”


said outgoing MBA Chairman John Everett, CEO of Legacy Bank and Trust in Springfield. “She has always been generous in devoting her time to answer our questions, listen to our con- cerns and provide guidance. Esther’s vast banking knowledge has benefited banks throughout our nation.”


A Missouri native, George was appointed president of the Federal Reserve Bank in October 2011 and leads a workforce of more than 2,000 employees. Te Kansas City Fed oversees seven states: western Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Colorado, Wyoming and northern New Mexico. She had been the chief operating officer since August 2009. Much of her 40-year career with the Federal Reserve Bank was spent in the Division of Supervision and Risk Management.


George is a former chair of the Federal Reserve System’s Com- munity Banking Organizations Management Group. She also has served as the acting director of the Federal Reserve’s Divi- sion of Banking Supervision and Regulation at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System in Washington, D.C.

Paul J. Tompson, chairman and CEO of Country Club Bank Kansas City, was honored with the MBA Chairman’s Award on Tursday, June 9, during MBA’s 132nd Annual Convention at the Hilton Branson Convention Center.


“Paul has been actively engaged with elected officials at both the state and federal levels through-


out his career,” said outgoing MBA Chairman John Everett, CEO of Legacy Bank and Trust in Springfield. “Paul asks the tough questions, making certain the concerns of our industry are heard. He never lets off the gas, and I greatly admire and respect that drive and passion.”


Tompson, who served as MBA chairman in 2009, is the second generation of his family to lead Country Club Bank. Troughout his 30-year banking career, Tompson has served in various industry leadership roles. From 2014-2018, he served as a Class A Director on the board of directors for the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. He also has been an active member of the American Bankers Association, having served on the ABA Accounting Committee, the ABA Com- munity Bankers Council, the ABA Membership Committee and the ABA Government Relations Council Administrative Committee.


Tompson contributes his time and energies to several phil- anthropic, educational and civic organizations in the greater Kansas City area.
