Put Me in Coach; I’m Ready to Play! By Cheri Messerli, Senior Vice President of Education
As we enter the dog days of summer, I’m reminded of the John Fogerty song “Centerfield.” Tis catchy tune from the 80s is one of the best known baseball songs of all-time. According to Fogerty, part of the inspiration for writing the song was imagining himself as a rookie player sitting on the bench begging the coach for his chance to play.
“Oh, put me in, coach — I’m ready to play today Put me in, coach — I’m ready to play today Look at me, I can be centerfield”
Te song ends with the player hitting a homerun, “it’s a gone and you can tell that one goodbye!” Te moral of the lyrics, in my opinion, is that one can prove himself or herself on the field, but they have to be given the opportunity. It’s analogous to a situation that some of your staff may experience from time to time.
Have you considered bringing new staff or young professionals to an MBA event? We know many of you provide opportunities for duty-specific training, but there are numerous other opportunities for your staff that will allow them to further grow and demonstrate their value to your organization. We want to support this effort among our members through our newest initiative, “Bring a Young
Banker,” that offers a reduced registration fee for each member of our Young Bankers Leadership Division who is accompanied by a full registration at MBA events.
MBA will host in-person regional meetings throughout the state this fall, and we want you to bring a Young Banker! We are excited to see you and meet the young professionals from your bank. Te regional meetings feature special guest speakers and focus on government relations and regulatory updates.
