data on the safety of group singing and to prioritize the safety of all directors and singers. Te report offers a practical and comprehensive list of “pedagogical suggestions for navigating the myriad contexts in which our members find themselves, at various levels and settings” (p. 6).

In their chapter on Music in Worship (p. 80), the report addresses three rehearsal scenarios we are likely to encounter, with suggestions for how to accommodate each with the greatest concern for our singers’ and our own safety: 1. face to face instruction with physical distancing protocols (where ensemble size exceeds the usual room capacities), 2. hybrid rehearsals (some in-person, some remote), and 3. fully remote rehearsals.

Suggestions for the various scenarios include:

• holding smaller sectional or one- or-two-on-a-part rehearsals

• helping singers with what they need to practice on their own (digital sheet music, recordings, and/or streamed rehearsals for at-risk members)

• working with your singers to make sure each has access and ability to use the technology and software they need in order to fully participate in recording or streaming rehearsals and/or vocal technique workshops

• intentional connection-building and group social activities

ACDA COVID-19 Response Committee Report

Te American Choral Directors’ Association (ACDA) COVID-19 Response Committee has compiled a 108-page resource for choral musicians as we begin to navigate this uncertain time. Its authors do not profess medical expertise; they urge all of us to remain vigilant for additional

. . . and many more practical suggestions to keep our singers singing. For all scenarios, the report suggests recording and/or streaming rehearsals for those who cannot be present; it also recommends that we eliminate the sharing of any music or folders and make sure each singer has their own copy of everything, which they keep with them at all times. On Sundays for liturgy, until such time that we have data confirming the safety of larger groups singing in closer quarters (which is not recommended right now), it suggests that directors consider using only soloists or very small and socially distanced ensembles.
