Darnell St. Romain
Recipient of the Funk Family Scholarship
Darnell Allen St. Romain is from Baton
Rouge, Louisiana and is now living in Richardson, Texas. Darnell is the Associate Director of Liturgical Music at Prince of Peace Catholic Community in Plano, Texas, working toward his Doctor of Pastoral Music degree from Perkins School of Teology at Southern Methodist University. Darnell first encountered NPM through Velta Williams, his music director at St. Paul the Apostle Parish in Baton Rouge; he has been involved in NPM since 2010, serving on the Board of NPM Dallas from 2013-2017.
Of his ministry as a pastoral musician, Darnell does not feel that he “chose” it—rather, he was “enveloped by a loving community who encouraged him,” and he feels called by God to pursue his musical talents. “God is faithful,” he says, “so I in return want to be faithful to God.” His identical twin, Darrell Anthony St. Romain, is also a NPM Scholarship winner.

Darrell St. Romain
Recipient of the Dr. Peter R. & Rosemary C. Girardot Memorial Scholarship
Darrell Anthony St. Romain, like his twin brother Darnell, hails originally from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and he currently lives in Richardson, Texas. He serves as Director of Music at Mary Immaculate Catholic Church in Farmers Branch, Texas, in the Dallas Diocese. Darrell has earned Master’s degrees in both Organ Performance and Sacred music, and he is currently pursuing his Doctor in Pastoral Music degree at Perkins School of Teology at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.
He has been a member of NPM since 2013, first in the Baton Rouge Chapter and moving to the Dallas Chapter in 2017. Pastoral music is deeply important to him and his life. He says, “Being a pastoral musician is a calling for me, not a career—and the best part is leading congregational song in worship.”
