David and Dot Tribble – Ambassadors for Bonclarken

Board of Advisors when this group was founded in 1998. They made frequent trips to their home at 203 Sycamore Drive here on our grounds. In 1966, Dot began bringing her boys to Family Bible Conference. When Mu-

that I was meeting a couple who would be a great influence on me and a great influence on my future place of employment. With their recent passing (David passed away October 13 and Dot on July 18), I want to share more about these two wonderful am- bassadors for Bonclarken. They met while students at Erskine

and both graduated in 1949. David then graduated from Vanderbilt’s Medical School in 1954. They moved often during their early life together during his medical education and training, as well as military service, so much so that each of their six sons was born in a different city in five dif- ferent states. In 1962, they settled in Columbia, SC, where they raised their family. They both had deep roots in the ARP Church and were active at Centennial ARP and later at First Presbyterian (ARP) in Columbia. They simply loved Bonclarken—

our mission, our role in the ARP Church, our location—just every- thing about this place. They taught this love to their children, their grand- children, and even their great-grand- children. What a blessing! They both served terms on our Bonclarken Board of Trustees and Dot was on the search committee when Jim Brice was named Executive Director in 1988. They were charter members of our

sic Conference began offerings for youth, she brought her boys and her nieces and nephews. However, it was when her grandchildren came on the scene that the tradition of Tribble Family attendance at Music Conference really took off. She would chaperone the grandchildren in her house, preparing all the meals, making sure they attended their practice sessions, and providing a wonderful time of fellowship for all the Tribble cousins. Dot often commented to me how much she looked forward to having everyone together during Music Conference. Serving on our Boards and bringing family members to conferences is just

the tip of what they did for Bonclarken. They encouraged others to bring their families to the various youth and adult conferences we host, they donated gen- erously and faithfully, they prayed regularly for our ministry, all of which was such an encouragement to me. I always knew David and Dot were ready to support Bonclarken in every way possible. Again, what a blessing! At Dot’s funeral, her grandson Graham spoke on how much those summers

at Music Conference meant to him and his cousins. He knew the amount of work his grandmother put in for them all to be together, and he spoke about how much he appreciated and valued the experience. If you had the good fortune of knowing this wonderful couple, you were influ-

enced by them as I was. We will miss their passion and their support, but know their ambassadorship will continue through the next generations of their family. Bonclarken is a better place because of the lives of David and Dot Tribble.?
