I am Beth Tuten, one of the co-direc- tors for Camp Joy SC. In the summer of with my youth leader, a couple of hors- es, and a few youth group members; I was 13 years old. We were at Camp Joy for three days, helping campers with horseback riding, and I was immedi- ately hooked. I had never before expe- rienced such pure joy! When we left, I cried all the way home. I didn’t know it then, but God was just getting started on my heart. Because of my experiences with Camp Joy, I went to Erskine College and majored in special education. As a young teacher in rural SC, I wanted my students to experience Camp Joy, but it never worked out. Camp Joy always had a long waiting list, and my stu- dents’ parents thought my suggestion of a NC summer camp was farfetched. During one of my summer visits to a Camp Joy talent show, I learned that Camp Joy had expanded and opened a camp in Florida. I’d never considered Camp Joy outside of Bonclarken! God immediately started talking to me, I needed to help open Camp Joy in SC! Camp Joy SC has been open for 12
at Gravatt Conference Center in Aiken, SC, with 17 campers. We now have two one-week sessions each June and serve 36 campers each summer. I am thrilled that many students from my school, both those with and without disabilities, have attended Camp Joy SC as campers and counselors! I have seen God change and shape their lives through Camp Joy! I am beyond grateful for God’s con- tinued blessings that have made Camp Joy SC possible. He has provided an amazing Co-Director in David Harrell, and knit together a consistent staff that goes above and beyond to make each summer an unforgettable experience for our campers. We would love for you to become part of the Camp Joy SC ministry! We have three ways you can join in on the joy: 1. Pray - Pray Camp Joy SC will con- tinue to glorify God. Pray for the coun- selors, staff, and campers of Camp Joy and that God will prepare their hearts

3. Volunteer - All Camp Joy SC coun- selors and staff are volunteers. We need counselors between the ages of 15 and 29, especially males. We also need nurs- es, volunteers to assist with fundraising activities, and one-day volunteers to help with camp activities. - mation on our volunteer needs, please follow this link:

2. Give - Camp Joy SC is sustained by the generosity of donors and camper fees, which help cover operational costs. The total cost for a camper/counselor pair for each session is approximate- ly $1,500. Camp Joy does not require counselor volunteers to pay and only charges campers a minimal fee, leaving - ners like you to help us bridge this gap and continue our mission. Your sup- port, no matter the amount, can make a profound difference in the lives of our special friends. We need to raise $54,000 to fully fund the two one-week sessions offered by Camp Joy SC each summer. -

I fervently pray that Camp Joy con- tinues to shine a light on what is beau- tiful, lovely, and amazing about our special friends with different abilities. We do these things so others may come to know Christ and enjoy him forever. I pray others see JOY in us; may the JOY extend to the ends of the earth.
