Dr. Harley Howard Sutton, Sr.


home in Jamestown, TN. He was born March 4, 1923, grew up in Aurora, IN and was the son of the late George S. and Mary Tandy Sutton.


An Army veteran of WW II, he served with the last Horse Squadron, the 129th Cavalry. He was a graduate of Michigan State Veterinary School. In July of 1949 he married Davona “Davy” Williams in San Francisco, California. Tat same year he began his veterinary career in Lexing- ton, KY. In 1957 he joined Ed Taylor of Georgetown, KY in a vet partnership. He served as president of the Kentucky Veterinary Medical Association that same year. In 1970 he built Cen- tral Kentucky Veterinarian Center. Harley was named “Outstanding Kentucky Veterinarian of 1971” by the KVMA. He was passionate about his profession and frequently mentored young veterinarians.


Sutton’s love of horses began at an early age and continued throughout his life. He loved gardening, wood-working, sailing and was an active member of the Wildcat Investment Club, Spokes and Spurs Driving Club, and enjoyed UK basketball. While living in Georgetown, he was an elder at First Presbyterian Church and later attended Mt. Horeb Presbyterian Church. At the age of 71 he retired from his practice.


He is survived by his children, Sherrie (Steve) Bryant, Collinsville, VA; George F. (Sara) Sutton, DVM, Georgetown, KY; Harley H. (Kaki) Sutton, Jr, DVM, Jamestown, TN; Claire (Tim) Upshaw, Kingsport, TN, 11 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

Dr. James K. Boutcher


May 10, 1941 - September 22, 2017. Dr. James K. Boutcher, 76, passed away Friday, Septem- ber 22. He was born in Oldham County, Kentucky, and was the son of the late James K. and Lorena Boutcher. He is survived by his wife of 53 years Sally Meers Boutcher; daughter Mandy Morris (Shawn); son James Boutcher, III, (Erin); grandsons; his brother and sister; devoted care- giver Aaron Blair, and faithful dog Curtis.


Dr. Boutcher was a graduate of Auburn University School of Veterinary Medicine and devoted 40 years of his life caring for horses throughout the Bluegrass and as far away as Japan. He was a lifetime member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Kentucky Veterinary Medical Association, the American Associa- tion of Equine Practitioners, a former member and president of the Kentucky Association of Equine Practitioners, the Florida Veterinary Medical Association, the Farm Managers Club, the Toroughbred Owners and Breeders Club, and the Toroughbred Club of America. He deeply cherished being named a Chapter Farmer by the Woodford County FFA and was the founding member of the Woodford County Chapter of Ducks Unlimited. He was a member of First Christian Church in Versailles.


Dr. Boutcher’s days were filled with immeasurable joy sharing time with his family and friends and working in a pro- fession that meant so much to him. When he had free time, he enjoyed shooting sporting clays and going to friends’ dove hunts.


Memorial donations may be made to Old Friends, Georgetown, Kentucky; Sanders Brown Aging Center, Lexington; or First Christian Church, Versailles.
