KVMA Executive Board Meeting Minutes (cont.)


• A motion was made to sponsor Lincoln Memorial University CVM White Coat Ceremony and BBQ for $1,500.00, second, passed unanimously.


• A motion was made to accept the new membership applications, second, passed unanimously. • Meeting adjourned for the evening at 9:08 PM

Dr. Gary Brown discussed what’s going on at AVMA, Dr. Janet Donlan is focusing on member value. Dr. Barb Schmidt thanked the KVMA Board for volunteer leadership and reiterated AVMA’s focus on membership.


Dean C. Johnson thanked the KVMA for support of AUCVM and noted several KVMA members on their advisory boards, he noted the support of the Southern Regional Board is critical to maintain Kentucky seats at AUCVM.


Dr. Givens has visited Murray/VKU/U or L/UK in the week prior to the meeting, Kentucky vet school applications were up in 2017 (>130 applications) thanks to KVMA membership for their support, AUCVM won a USDA grant to place students in underserved areas (6 students/5 year grant).


Dr. Lovelady said Kentucky prevet infrastructure in great, three students per year go to Tuskegee and have a strong desire to return home to Kentucky after graduation.


Mr. Brandon Morgan said Tuskegee has reorganized making the CVM a stand-alone college within the University - they are in the works to make a clear path for acceptance of Kentucky students.


Dr. Randy Evans stated that LMU admitted its 4th class in August containing seven Kentucky residents - All LMU students rotate through the UK-VDL.


Dr. John Weale explained that LMU has 12 separate blocks of distributive education for their students.


Dr. Mark Smith invited all to attend the 5th Annual KVMA Foundation Clay Shoot Fundraiser on Oct. 26, it’s lots of fun and a spa and winery are available as well. Meeting was adjourned at 7:55 AM. 

• Financial report was given and a motion was made to accept, second, unanimous approval • Constituent Association Reports were presented • Dr. Mills represented KVMA at the KDA/Ag & Environment in the Classroom Poster & Essay Contest Celebra- tion at Whitaker Ballpark in Lexington; the theme for the context was “KY Farmers Feed the Hungry”.


• Public Relations Committee report was presented • Power of Ten Leadership Report was presented – 3rd class starts at Mid-America Veterinary Conference • Nomination Committee Report was presented. Dr. Bonnie Barr nominated for Vice President and Dr. Andy Roberts was re-nominated for Secretary/Treasurer


• Finance Committee Report was presented. Hilliard-Lyons and Wells Fargo Account reports were pre- sented.
