LMU Welcomes 127 Students Into Veterinary Profession at White Coat Ceremony
Harrogate, Tennessee, November 2, 2017 - Lincoln Memorial Universi- ty-College of Veterinary Medicine (LMU-CVM) held a White Coat Ceremony for the Doctor of Vet- erinary Medicine Class of 2021 on October 28, 2017, in the Tex Turner Arena on the LMU main campus in Harrogate, Tennessee.
One hundred and twenty-seven stu- dents received their white coat at the ceremony. Receiving a white coat marks a very significant time for stu- dents studying to be doctors. Te first white coat ceremony took place in 1993, and it was first modified for veterinary medicine in 1999. Now, virtually every veterinary school in the United States conducts a White Coat Ceremony at some point in their program. Te ceremony serves to symbolize the pathway toward becoming a doctor, including the knowledge and professionalism students will acquire. It also enables the College of Veterinary Medicine to affirm its commitment to providing the education and training necessary to help each student achieve his or her profes- sional goals.
In his charge to the students, Dean Jason Johnson, said, “When you wear your white coat, remember it is a visible reminder to you of the trust and expectations your clients will have in you. It is, indeed, a great responsibility to be a veterinarian.”
Te White Coat Ceremony was sponsored by Zoetis, and donations for a portion of the white coats were provided by the Tennessee Veterinary Medical Association and the Kentucky Veterinary Medical Association.
