2017 Mid-America Veterinary Conference
Just the Facts, Ma’am by Kristan Hodges, DVM
Though the annual conference of the KVMA, known as the Mid-America Veterinary Conference, is a “small state
meeting” in the broad comparative scheme of things, it continues to do quite well within that group. For 2017, we welcomed 352 veterinarians and 80 veterinary tech- nicians as well as 25 staff members and 11 students to Louisville, KY and the Galt House to be enlightened by 40 speakers. Te latest medications as well as examples of the most modern equipment were available for review with fully 58 exhibitors who could then answer questions on the spot or even take orders. 39 spouses also were reg- istered to participate in the weekend’s activities, many of whom look forward to coming every year to renew old friendships and maybe kindle a few new ones, as well.
Finally, an annual feature that brings excitement and a bit of healthy competition to the Mid-America is the auction. Many look forward to perusing the selection of tantalizing items on which to bid, hoping to go home as the proud owner of one or more of the items offered. Of course, we quietly hope that the bidding goes to ridicu-
lously high amounts, since the proceeds of the auction go to support the KVMA Foundation, which in turn supports scholarships and worthy charitable causes. For 2017, the auction brought in a grand total of $7,015! A BIG THANK YOU goes out to all who participated!
And another BIG THANK YOU to the many individu- als who saw to it that the Mid-America Veterinary Con- ference continued to be one of the finest conferences in America!
