KVMA EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING • WEDNESDAY, MAY 12TH, 2021 THE GALT HOUSE/ ZOOM – 12:30 PM EASTERN TIME WALKER’S EXCHANGE RESTAURANT – WEST TOWER – 2ND FLOOR


1. CALL TO ORDER Brigette Dean-Hines, Wade King, Debra Shoulders, Jason Rodgers, Debra Hamelback, Bonnie Barr, Jim Weber, Frank Vice, Lauren Mirus, Tammy Smith, Lynn Cassone, Barb Lewis, Michelle Shane, Grace Bransford, Kelly Giesbrecht, Ben Redmon 2. CONFLICT OF INTEREST : None Acknowledged 3. PREVIOUS MINUTES A. Minutes of the February 10th, 2021 • Minutes were amended under section 6. F to note that a change in bylaws is not needed to add additional constituent groups under our current bylaws.


• A motion to approve amended minutes (Rogers); 2nd (Dean-Hines) VOTE: APPROVED. 4. FINANCIAL BUSINESS A. Treasury Report – Dr. Wade King • the KVMA finances are in good standing and have been reviewed. • We currently have a net income increase of 31.9% compared to last year which is primarily due to earlier collection of dues. B. Investment Report – Dr. Wade King 1. Te KVMA investment accounts have been reviewed and continue to show positive growth. 2. We plan to adjust our investment vehicles in order to reduce cost in the future.


C. 2021 Budget Approval • Similar to the previously proposed budgets • 2021 has significant variables that make projections difficult, however this budget should give us an idea of our goals • We were conservative in our expected income from Mid-America while simultaneously forecasting increased Mid America costs do to the additional resources needed to facilitate both an in person and recorded conference


• Motion to approve the 2021 budget (Rogers); 2nd (Redmon) VOTE: APPROVED D. 2020 Audit Report • Audit went well and we are in compliance • We are financially stable and have seen an increase in net profits over last year.


5. Dr. Grace Bransford – AVMA President -Elect Candidate 2021-2022 A. Introduction and discussed candidacy • Career in advertising and marketing prior to Vetmed • Long history of AVMA involvement • Looks forward to being the primary communicator and facilitator for AVMA 1. Wants to continue elevate the status and vole of the veterinarian in our community 2. Wants to promote all community members to feel included in our profession


6. ACTION ITEMS A. KVMA Membership Applications • Formal motion to accept applications • Motion to approved new members VOTE: APPROVED B. KBVE Update • Michelle Shane – Executive Director 1. Working on practice act, • slow going, currently working on the definitions at the moment, will forward it in the future for review and comment once more content is formed


• discussing scope of practice for licensed veterinary technicians o Updates to be included in newsletter and areas to start discussion o Discontinued use of Xylazine in small animals- no longer approved o Planning ahead for medical records retention and access after retirement/death o Recommend Employers verifying the licensure status of employees – at hiring AND following every renewal period •

C. Dr. Jason Rodgers • Update on 2021 Mid-America Conference 1. One Health Placement? • Plan to have it Friday, late morning and late afternoon


2. Recording for On-Demand Sessions? • Video-Recorders- will get recommendations from AV group • Plan to purchase AV equipment based on AV groups recommendation in order to keep costs affordable
