IA participates in irrigation standards development

IA celebrates successful year
The Irrigation Association celebrated a successful 2018 during the general session at the Irrigation Show and Education Conference.
IA President Warren Gorowitz, CLIA, and IA CEO Deborah Hamlin, CAE, FASAE, updated attendees about the association’s 2018 accomplishments, including advocacy efforts on Capitol Hill centered around the farm bill and water policy issues, the announcement of the new Irrigation Innovation Consortium, a successful Smart Irrigation Month, and a new 30 for 30 Initiative to recruit and retain members.
Professional development remained a high priority in 2018, highlighted by the completion of a certified agricultural irrigation specialist job analysis and the launch of a gap analysis of existing education programs.
This annual meeting brings together delegations from around the world to discuss and develop standards for irrigation products. Standards are documents that are used to describe the minimum requirements for an irrigation product to be made or tested to verify performance. Standards currently under review are for irrigation products related to the “internet of things,” control and management.
IA-CAIA sign memorandum of understanding
The IA and the California Agricultural Irrigation Association have formed a partnership focused on promoting efficient irrigation throughout California. The partnership became official with the signing of a memorandum of understanding by CAIA President Richard Arias and 2018 IA President Warren Gorowitz, CLIA, during the 2018 Irrigation Show.
The new partnership encompasses several areas, including advocacy, education, public affairs and workforce development. The IA looks forward to working with the CAIA to advance the industry in the years to come.
