Economic and Industry Trends for 2025 – A New Landscape Te U.S. economy in 2025 shows signs of stabilization, with inflation rates moderating to approximately 2.4 percent. Te Federal Reserve has maintained interest rates between 4.25 percent and 4.5 percent, exercising caution amid ongoing trade policy uncertainties. Some economists have shifted predictions of a recession to a growing economy. Time will tell, but high-quality natural turfgrass demands remain strong, although the demand sectors may be shifting.

A trend in consumer behavior reflects a preference for home renovations over new purchases, driven by higher interest rates. Tis trend supports demand for premium turfgrass products, as homeowners invest in enhancing their properties rather than relocating. Tis trend could moderate if interest rates start falling.

Meanwhile, the turfgrass industry is experiencing a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 6.9 percent, expanding from $28.66 billion in 2024 to $30.63 billion in 2025. Key drivers include urban development, increased investment in sports infrastructure, and a shift toward sustainable landscaping practices. Innovative turfgrass producers can benefit from these trends if they are prepared with improved grasses, technologically advanced equipment, and farm operations technology.

Sustainability and Technological Advancements – True Drought Tolerance and Proven Performance Sod Solutions continues to lead the industry in promoting proven turfgrass varieties that perform well under real-world conditions. Te emphasis is on grasses that require lower inputs and demonstrate exceptional resilience and sustainability.

Moreover, the “Natural Turfgrass is Good” emphasis will further highlight turfgrass's broader environmental benefits, from preventing erosion and cooling urban areas to providing aesthetic value and enhancing community spaces.

Sod Solutions is committed to maintaining its focus on proven varieties while educating the public on the vital role of natural turfgrass in sustainable landscaping.

Plant Stock Report – Expanded Production and Enhanced Availability Sod Solutions has significantly expanded plant stock production to meet rising demand. Availability is strong this summer and fall, supporting substantial acreage growth of key varieties. Te legacy time-tested varieties listed below continue to grow and are major grasses worldwide.

It was recently noted that Celebration® Bermuda is the grass

of choice at eight 2025 PGA TOUR locations. Palmetto® St. Augustine has been a landscape saver in South Florida, replacing significant amounts of Floratam St. Augustine dying from a disease called LVN. Palmetto is resistant and is experiencing a surge in usage in 2024 and 2025. Legacy grasses Celebration, Palmetto, and EMPIRE®

Zoysia

continue to set industry standards. All have good supplies of plant stock for 2025.

TPI Turf News July/August 2025

New and Improved Varieties include: - CitraZoy®

Zoysia (University of Florida) is highly

disease-tolerant and uniquely performs well in tropical and subtropical regions. Demand is high and plant stock is limited. - Lobo®

tolerant and performs well in various adaptations. Lobo is being expanded from California to North Carolina. Plant stock is low because it is highly in demand. - Sola®

NC State is an improvement on Raleigh St. Augustine. Demand is high and plant stock is limited. - Cobalt®

Zoysia (NC State University) is extremely drought- St. Augustine (NC State University) Te latest from Hybrid St. Augustine (Texas A&M University):

Te world’s first hybrid St. Augustine, developed using Embryo Rescue Technology, is a tough grass that withstands extreme drought and has excellent disease tolerance. It’s one of the fastest-growing grasses acres-wise in the Sod Solutions network, with over 1,000 acres planted and growing. Plant stock is in high demand and is limited in some regions. - Celebration Hybrid™

Bermuda (Mississippi State

University) is becoming widely demanded across Florida, Texas, and the Southeast U.S. Demand is high and plant stock is limited. - NorthBridge®

you watch sports on television, you see NorthBridge and its cousin Latitude 36®

Bermuda (Oklahoma State University) If Bermuda regularly from the San

Diego Padres in California to Clemson University in South Carolina, from Texas A&M in Texas to Auburn University in Alabama. NorthBridge has surged in growth in 2024- 2025 and is one of our most highly demanded grasses. Tese grasses stand out and have set new standards for sports fields, golf courses, commercial, and home applications.

Consider what fields looked like in the latter part of the season, 20 - 25 years ago. Remember the “mud bowls” with players slipping and sliding? Improvements in warm- and cool-season varieties have made golf courses greener and more consistent, sports fields safer, and backyards require fewer inputs.

It is important to highlight these impacts and continue to innovate to make natural turfgrass even better. With grasses like NorthBridge and Latitude 36 Bermuda and others, along with improved BMPs, venues look better, are safer, and perform substantially better. Plant stock for both is in high demand and is limited in some areas.
