BLUEGRASS SR 2758
River Run Kentucky Bluegrass - New to the family for 2025, Pennington is introducing River Run Kentucky Bluegrass. Tis cultivar was developed through the breeding program at NexGen Research facility. Te aggressive spreading characteristics and dark winter color make this a perfect partner to turf type tall fescue mixes. Tis cultivar was trialed in the 2018-2022 KBG NTEP trials and performed in the top statistical category for overall turf quality, turf disease, spring and summer density, and wear resistance. A fun fact on the naming of River Run. One of the first fields put into production was under floodwaters for nine days. Once the river went down, the crop was able to bounce back and continue seed production. After that event, the experimental cultivar earned its name, River Run. SR 2758 (SRX 2758) Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis) is a Mid- Atlantic-type bluegrass from the cross RSP X Midnight. An A-LIST variety, it demonstrates the heat tolerance and disease resistance crucial for survival in stressful environments. Its drought resistance will become more critical as climate change occurs for areas in which Kentucky bluegrasses are well adapted. It demonstrates superior turf quality in Nebraska, North Carolina, and transition zones, along with excellent resistance to Summer Patch, Crown and Stem Rust. SR 2758 has high seedling vigor, quick establishment, and dark green color, with early spring greenup. It has superior wear tolerance and recovery, combined with shade tolerance. Hype (5Z5) Strong Creeping Red Fescue is a new variety from Columbia River Seed with emphasis on improved turf quality. Tis variety has improved mowing quality, higher resistance to summer patch, dollar spot and red thread. Moderate color with a medium to fine leaf texture. Hype blends well with other fine fescues.
