HONORARY MEMBER Outstanding contribution to the research, planting, growing and marketing of turfgrass sod. (Need not be a current TPI member.)
DISTINGUISHED SERVICE
Outstanding devotion of time, talent and energy to TPI, its programs and objectives for five or more years. (Need not be a current TPI member.)
INNOVATOR OF THE YEAR AWARD
Unique and significant achievement that advances turfgrass sod production through research, engineering, training, marketing, public relations or environmental improvement, etc. (Must be a current TPI member.)
TURFGRASS EDUCATOR AWARD OF EXCELLENCE
Outstanding contribution to the turfgrass industry through academics, public outreach, and/or involvement with turfgrass associations, turfgrass producers, suppliers, manufacturers, researchers, etc. (Need not be a current TPI Member.)
All the award recipients will receive recognition in Turf News, the TPI Membership Directory and during the TPI 2020 International Education Conference & Field Day in Orlando, Florida.

DR. HENRY W. INDYK SCHOLARSHIP Te application process for the 2020 Dr. Henry W. Indyk Scholarship begins on October 1. TPI members, their family, their employees, and their employee’s families who will be attending college or graduate school during the during the 2020-2021 academic year are encouraged to apply.
Te Dr. Henry W. Indyk Scholarship was established by Te Lawn Institute (TLI) Board of Trustees in 2006 to honor a founding father of Turfgrass Producers International (TPI) and to help to mitigate the rising costs of college and post-graduate education. TLI will provide a scholarship valued up to $10,000 (US). Tis includes an initial award of $2,500, renewable up to three times, pending certain criteria. For more information, visit www.

Obviously, the scholarship funds are a huge benefit to the students and their families. TLI’s investment in the future of these young people also reaps huge benefits for the future of the turfgrass industry.
Consider these past recipients. Dr. James D. (Jay) McCurdy, was the recipient in 2006, the year the program was established. Dr. McCurdy is now an assistant professor and turfgrass extension specialist in the Department of Plant & Soil Sciences at Mississippi State University in Starkville, MS. Many past scholarship recipients have joined the family business and are filling key roles there, such as Kevin Coombs, 2008 recipient, of Coombs Sod Farms in Elmer, NJ, and Kelsey Lain Gurda, 2009 recipient, of Pine Island Turf Nursery in Pine Island, NY.
Andrew Aposhian, the 2016 TLI Scholarship recipient, is the son of Steve and Wendy Aposhian, FireFly Automatix, North Salt Lake, Utah. He is pursuing a double major in Computer Science and Mathematics.
Amy Wilbur, recipient of the 2017 four-year TLI Scholarship, is attending Te Ohio State University, majoring in Sustainable Plant Systems with an emphasis on Turfgrass Science. She is the daughter of Gary and Melanie Wilbur, Oakwood Sod Farm, Inc., Delmar, Maryland.
Lanie Carl, recipient of the 2018 four-year TLI Scholarship, is the daughter of Jay and Leigh Ann Carl, Carl & Son Turf, Hendersonville, Missouri. She is studying Environmental Engineering at California Polytechnic University (aka Cal Poly).
Emma Hedgpeth, recipient of the 2018 one-year TLI Scholarship, is a student at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington. Emma is the daughter of Paul and Jill Hedgpeth, Columbia River Seed, in Kennewick, Washington.
Krysta Bouchard, recipient of the 2019 one-year TLI Scholarship, will enter Te University of Rhode Island this fall majoring in Psychology and minoring in Biological Chemistry. Krysta is the daughter of Brock and Kerie Bouchard, Kingston Turf Farms, West Kingston, Rhode Island, and the granddaughter of Brian Bouchard.
Sara Lechlider, recipient of the 2017 one-year TLI Scholarship, and the 2019 four-year TLI Scholarship is attending Purdue University, majoring in Agribusiness and minoring in Turfgrass Management. She is the
daughter of Doug and Robin Lechlider, Laytonsville Landscaping,
Inc.Inc., in Laytonsville, MD.
