TPI’S 2019 SUMMER CONVENTION & FIELD DAY RECAP

Wow! Over 560 great folks got together July 23-25 to make some memories in Minnesota at the TPI 2019 Summer Convention & Field Day! Attendees came from ten countries: Australia, Canada, Costa Rica, Finland, Hungary, the Netherlands, Norway, South Africa, the United Kingdom and the United States. Tat included attendees from 28 U.S. states and representatives from 99 farms. Sod producers and industry suppliers from around the world discussed the latest in products, equipment and technology and shared ideas to promote the future of natural grass and expand the #KeepItREAL campaign.
Te Hyatt Regency Bloomington-Minneapolis was a great site, with lots of great spots to join long-time friends and newly made ones for networking. TPI’s registration area was just down the hall, with the ever-popular bulletin board for posting items for sale and job opportunities and even a plug for Bob Weerts’ favorite candy store. Te whole place was filled with friendly faces and buzzing with conversation accompanied by handshakes or hugs. Te Mall of Americas was a quick ride away by hotel van or Uber
TUESDAY
Tuesday Afternoon Tour of the National Sports Center (NSC) in Blaine, Minnesota Attendees viewed the 18-hole PGA-Tour designed golf course while learning its background and maintenance details from the golf course superintendent; saw the natural grass of the largest outdoor soccer complex in the world making a comeback after a massive tournament; and checked out the field where the Minnesota United FC Soccer Team trains.
Tuesday Afternoon Visit to the University of Minnesota Turfgrass Research and Outreach Center (TROE) Tuesday’s second stop was TROE where a tractor-towed wagon was available for the short jaunt from the buses to the gathering site. Attendees toured the natural grass research plots, discussed research projects with the researchers; challenged each other to some lawn games, and enjoyed some Famous Dave's BBQ.
