EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S TURF A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

Many of us have heard that a picture is worth a thousand words. Well, if that’s true, what is a video worth? One million words? Two million words? While there may not be an objective answer to that question there is almost certainly a subjective answer to it.


I was working at my desk one day recently on some of the usual tasks that many of us do every day. Emails, budgets, returning phone calls, you know the routine. Nothing to complain about, but for whatever reason, I was just kind of treading water that day. I then got an email out of the blue that our 2023 TPI Conference Recap video was ready and needed our review. Just one more thing to add to the to-do list for that day, right? Wow, was I wrong!


In just a short 5-minute video, I was reminded why we do what we do each day at TPI. Te friendships and camaraderie on display at TPI are just always so much fun to witness and be a part of. Education, trade shows, members mixing with each other in booths and at social events, you name it. Te feeling of live music in Nashville at the winter conference and a fair-type atmosphere at the summer convention can only truly be re-captured on video.


Time and time again, our members tell us that the relationships they make at TPI often last a lifetime. Te bonds we create with seemingly simple interactions in the hallways or at social events during the conference are worth traveling there for. Seeing kids and adults on trikes (and of course falling off trikes) is something that a still photograph just doesn’t capture.


I was reminded why our TPI staff, board of trustees, contractors, and volunteers work for twelve months of the year to put on a four-day conference. It also reminds me why our TPI members travel from all over the world to be a part of our conferences.


We will always do our best to provide a great experience at TPI, and that certainly would not be possible without you, our members. Our upcoming 2024 TPI International Education Conference & Field Day will be held at the Orlando World Center Marriot in Orlando, FL, from February 4th to 8th and we hope to see you there.
