MANAGING A COMMUNITY

Understanding the Role of the Board of Directors and the Managing Agent to Maximize Success within the Community.

By Gabriella R. Comstock, Keough & Moody, P.C.

We all have heard the proverb “It takes a village to raise a child.” The philosophy behind this concept is that a community of people needs to work together to raise a child to their maximum potential. This same philosophy can apply to community associations. That is, the members of the community association team must work together to ensure the community achieves its maximum potential. While there are several members of the community association team, how well everyone will play together typically starts with the leadership of the board of directors, and when the community is professionally managed, the managing agent. In order to maximize their strength, both the board of directors and management must understand their roles on the team.
