Australia remains largest exporter of sheep, goat meat Australia last year retained its posi-

tion as the world’s largest exporter of sheep and goat meat, and the second-largest beef exporter behind Brazil, according to the la- test State of the Industry Report by Meat & Livestock Australia. MLA said Australia’s red meat and livestock sector entered 2025 on a strong footing, achieving new milestones in growth, innovation and global competitive- ness despite a rapidly changing operating environment. Australia’s red meat and livestock ex- ports rose 3.2 percent year-on-year in 2024, reaching $19.5 billion in value.

Lamb exports reached 359,299 tons shipped weight in 2024, the highest on record and 10% above 2023 levels, while mutton exports totaled 255,090 tons swt, up 21.6% year-on-year.

Goat meat exports surged 51.9% to 51,489 tons swt in 2024.

Live cattle exports rose 13% to 766,044 cattle, while the sheep trade fell 33% to 433,078 sheep exported. For the first time, Jordan became Aus-

tralia’s largest destination for live sheep ex- ports, receiving 30% of total shipments. This shift was largely due to a 58% drop in exports to Kuwait.
