Top-seller brings $8,900 at 18th CoC sale The granddaddy of all Kiko sales returned to the Harrison
County Fairgrounds in Corydon, Ind., Oct. 4, for the 18th annual Cream of the Crop Production Sale. The weekend was filled with net- working, goat talk and educational opportunities.
The private invitational sale is hosted by Kendell and Dana Barnes of Chey-View Kikos in Kentucky and the McGill family of Triple M Kikos of Indiana. The hosts share the fairgrounds with the National Kiko Registry, which sponsors the Corn Country Meat Goat Conference each year.
Activities began on Friday, Oct. 3, with the NKR conference. The NKR also sponsored a goat-meat chili lunch on Saturday. Of course, the highlight of the weekend was the sale of Kiko breeding stock on Saturday afternoon. It was an unseasonably warm day but a breeze through the barn kept the crowd comfortable. Auctioneer Pit Kemmer called bids while Mac Wilkie narrated. The sale was broadcast live via Andy & Paige Roller and TopLive- stock. Fifty-one bidders were registered in-house and 39 bidders were signed up online.
When it was all over, 92 lots had sold for a total of $120,750 or $1,312 per lot. Sales online through TopLivestock totaled $19,100 or 16% of the total. Buyers from 15 states made purchases.
