The Circus Historical Society will convene its 2024


Annual Convention at the Marriott Northeast/Emory University in Atlanta (GA) August 4-7, with Bello Nock,


proclaimed by TIME Magazine as “America’s Best Clown,” as Guest Speaker. The convention will open with a reception


and end with an auction of historical circus collectibles and memorabilia. Multiple presentations and panel discussions are


also slated for the convention. Likewise, the 2024 National Circus Model Builders will meet at the Hampton Inn in Wabash (IN) August 8-10. Convention activities will include a visit to animal trainer Terrell Jacob’s grave, plus a display


of circus models open to the public. The Great Wallace Ring #31 in Indiana is hosting the convention. The musical Water For Elephants, described by NYC’s ABC7-TV as “part puppetry, part circus, part Broadway


Musical Spectacle” is “making a mark on Broadway.” Based on Sara Gruen’s novel about an early 20th-Century circus, Water for Elephants


earned seven Tony Award Nominations, and Grant Gustin won Broadway.

Performance. Drama Desk Award winners were Walter Trarbach for Outstanding Sound Design of a Musical; Cha Ramos for Outstanding Fight Choreography; Ray Wetmore, JR Goodman, and Camille Labarre for Outstanding Puppetry; and Jessica Stone for Outstanding


Direction of a Musical. Ms. Stone also won the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Direction of a Musical. Shana Carroll (Co-Founder of 7 Fingers circus ensemble)


and Jess Robb shared the Outstanding Choreography in a Broadway Musical Award from Chita Rivera Awards while Antoine Boissereau won for Outstanding Dancer in a Broadway Musical. Circus Arts Conservatory (CAC) Co-Founders


Pedro Reis and Dolly Jacobs, and CAC Executive Director Jennifer Mitchell, along with Highwire Phenom Nik Wallenda,


are donating $100,000 in support of Nate’s Honor Animal Rescue Shelter’s “Journey Home Campaign” in Sarasota (FL).


The funds were generated via Wallenda’s personal donation A Brave New Wonderful Holiday Show recently performed by CAC artists. 

Circus Fund donations are used to help the OABA maintain the right of circuses and USDA licensed performing animal owners to provide Americans with educational exhibits and performances of exotic animals. Funds allow this Association to hire professionals to assist with legislative and regulatory challenges that threaten our members’ businesses. Those who contribute at least $25 will be listed in


our Circus Fund Contribution Report in this monthly ShowTime magazine as well as in the annual Midway Marquee Directory.
