to management’s views and strategies is critical to creating support for the stock. 5. Foster an effective and compliant marketplace. Ensure that the company complies with applicable regulations and that investors can easily trade stock. 6. Create a narrative and disclosure for environ- mental, social, and governance (ESG) goals and commitments. Tis is an important task and is often handled on a cross-functional basis with the company, partnering with divisions that handle sustainability, research and development, the supply chain, human resources, and legal matters.
Carrying out these IR functions involves specific
tasks outlined in Figure 1. Where do potential partners and technologies
fit in? And how can they help? Let’s explore this task-by-task: • Informing the public. Informing the public requires issuing press releases, holding conference calls, and hosting websites. Reliable service partners are needed to distribute press releases and host earnings conferences. It is also important to maintain an updated, clean, informative website where investors and analysts can find pertinent company information. For example, Business Wire, Cision, EQS Group, Equisolve, IssuerDirect, InComm/Chorus Call, Investis, Notified, and Q4 are all firms that often provide at least two of these three services. It is becoming increasingly important for websites to include features compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Making sure the company website satisfies the needs of all disabilities is an important but demanding task. However, there are several technologies, such as “AccessiBe,” that can plug-in into a website (on any of the providers mentioned above) and include a widget that transforms the website to comply with the ADA.
• Create earnings and annual reporting materials; track and disclose data. Te suite of earnings materials (10-Q, slides, scripts, press releases, and Q&A support) all need to tie together. If one metric in a document is updated, the entire suite of documents needs to match. Solutions such as Workiva simplify this process and link
