SENIOR ROUNDTABLE

finance lead, treasury, financial planning, and financial and credit analysis, I had the opportunity to work with the IRO on an investor day event. At that point I knew investor relations was the perfect next

step for my career. Tis step allowed me to leverage my broad base of finance knowledge and practice with my desire to impact the organization through strong relationships with Wall Street. It’s been a fun ride over the years at multiple leading companies in various industries.

What is the best/worst thing to happen in your IR career? There have been many good things spanning my IR career, which I have thoroughly enjoyed. One that stands out is my opportunity to lead IR for the combined Office Depot and OfficeMax fol- lowing their historic merger. I had recently been appointed Vice President of Investor Relations at OfficeMax and was excited to relocate to the Office Depot headquarters in Florida to help the combined company establish itself as a more formidable player as we realized significant synergies through the transaction

and integration. I learned so much from the experience and am thankful that I was afforded the opportunity.

What is the funniest thing that happened to you as an IRO? I visited an investor in New York with my CEO and CFO at the time. This investor started a bizarre line of questioning, which I suspect was to try to pull us “off script.” It included many personal questions of my executives and even assigning them nicknames to match personalities. The meeting ended with hugs. My team joked about the interactions for days afterwards. Good thing my team had a sense of humor!

If you could have had another career than IR, what would it have been? In my dreams I would have been a professional waterskiier – more time skiing (and talent) would have helped. That said, I still waterski behind my boat for fun with my family. It’s one of my favorite pastimes and the perfect way to decompress after an intense earnings cycle. IR
