President’s Message Troy Brogdon, Chapter President

Happy 2017! I hope you all enjoyed the holidays and were able to catch up with old friends and spend time with your families. I know I really enjoyed having my mother-in-law stay with us for a full month. No really, I did.

If you missed the Annual Meeting and Awards Gala back in November, you truly missed out on one of the best events of the year. We recognized several folks for their commitment to the Chapter over the previous year and I’d like to recognize them once again:

Homeowner of the Year: Ferdinand Boyce, Royal Crest Condominium Manager of the Year: Beth Zollars, CMCA, AMS, PCAM Business Partner of the Year: McLeod Construction Volunteer of the Year: Greg Floyd President’s Award: Georgianna Chamberlain, CMCA, AMS, PCAM

We also introduced three new members to the WSCAI Board of Directors. Chelsea Webster, PCAM, Tony Rafel, Esq., and Amy Clements, CIRMS, ARM started their terms November 4th. Congratulations to the three of them! Serving on the Board is a privilege and is incredibly rewarding. They are replacing three wonderful board members, Michael Brandt, Esq., Sarah Anderson, PCAM (2014 Chapter President) and Jeremy Stillwell, Esq. – all will be missed.

I previously that we are working on expanding our development of the website and improving the Service Directory. Well we’re getting there. I invite you to visit the website and poke around if you haven’t lately. I’m sure that you’ll notice some changes. If you have any feedback for us, please feel free to reach out to the office and let Michelle know your thoughts.

We all know how bad traffic is around here. Sometimes it can be pretty tough making it out to a committee meeting in Lynnwood fighting that ever growing traffic problem. We also recognize that if you reside in Spokane, you probably aren’t driving out to Western Washington to participate in a WSCAI Committee meeting either. We want to make it possible to participate in these meetings interactively even if you can’t make it to the Chapter office. I, for one, have called into meetings and it just doesn’t work. We’re social animals and we want to feel like we’re interacting with the people we’re working with, see them smile and watch them furrow their eyebrows when they have a concern. We are in the process of implementing a video conferencing solution that solves this problem and allows for that human interaction and higher level participation. Stay tuned because this is coming soon and I think it will be a great benefit to the Chapter. I appreciate all of the Board for their efforts on researching the different options and selecting the appropriate fit. I want to be on a committee soon with someone in SPOKANE, or OAK HARBOR, BREMERTON, BELLINGHAM, WALLA WALLA, etc.! There are tremendous opportunities for our Chapter to work all over Washington State and geographic distance and traffic have been the road block to increased participation in our organization. Well now we will circumvent that obstacle and use the information superhighway to connect our communities. Can you tell I’m excited!?

Enough of my rambling. Dig into this issue of the Journal. We’ve got some great topics from some notable authors that answer some very good questions. The only question that doesn’t get answered in this issue is, “Are the Hawks going to the Superbowl?” Guess we’ll have to wait until next issue to find out . . .
