Potentials from University of Western States
Joseph Brimhall, DC President and CEO, University of Western States
University of Western States offers students several options to enroll in concurrent academic programs, enabling them to earn dual degrees along with their accredited Doctor of Chiropractic degree. Dual degree opportunities provide students with a “head start” on their career goals and create pathways toward board certifications and specializations. The following concurrent degree options are available for DC students:
• BS - Human Biology • MS – Clinical Nutrition & Functional Medicine • MS - Sports Medicine
Concurrent DC and Master of Science in Sports Medicine
The Master of Science degree program in Sports Medicine program trains healthcare providers to specialize in sports performance and injury management. Students learn evidence- informed treatments and management approaches, apply ethical professional practices in sports care, and evaluate cutting-edge research. The hybrid curriculum includes online coursework, hands-on labs, and field-based clinical training.
Dual degree options save money and time to completion because several DC courses are dually attributed to the concurrent degree program. For example, a DC student who enrolls in the Sports Medicine MS degree path can complete both programs in three calendar years, graduating with accredited DC and MS degrees. The MS in Sports Medicine provides advanced training from faculty with backgrounds in athletic training, osteopathic medicine, chiropractic, physical therapy, myofascial therapy, kinesiology and exercise science, nutrition, and sport
psychology. The evidence-based, science-backed curriculum provides graduates with skills to serve amateur and professional athletes along with active patients engaged in a variety of pursuits. Students engage in field training with experienced clinicians, working with a variety of patient populations and athletic environments.
