EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE
Jeff Curwen, CAE WSCA Executive Director
Back in late March, the WSCA Board of Directors met in Chelan for its annual strategic planning retreat. Over two days, they reviewed the association’s successes from the previous year, its challenges, legislative priorities, and discussed
programs and services that are being implemented over the coming year.
First, among these upcoming programs is our new partnership with Practisync. You’ll read more about this partnership later in this issue of Plexus, but the Board is very excited about its possibilities. Practisync offers a service that every clinic needs, and it does so at the lowest rate possible. Because Practisync is a wholly- owned subsidiary of our Illinois counterpart association, and their services are designed specifically for members of state chiropractic associations, they operate with a much lower overhead than other billing companies. In turn, they pass those savings onto you.
The Board also considered membership growth and how to engage more effectively with younger generations of chiropractors. This includes services, events, and communications. It also
includes plans to present two signature seminars aimed at two distinct practice types: insurance and cash practices. Later this year, WSCA members can expect to see a seminar covering the legalities, logistics, and processes involved in running a cash-only practice. But they can also expect to see a separate event focused on understanding the ins and outs of working with third-party payers. We also have other programs in the works to address your new healthcare equity training requirement.
And finally, the Board reviewed the 2024 legislative session and its priorities for 2025. Although the legislative agenda is still being developed, we know that two of the top issues we’ll be tackling will be pushing through a COLA bill (for which, we’ll need greater member involvement); and clarification in the law about chiropractors adjusting animals, the training necessary to do so, advertising, working with veterinarians, and collecting payment—all of which are currently rather nebulous.
It was a busy two days and we actually covered much more than I’ve mentioned here. Ultimately though, you can rest assured that your WSCA Board is continually working to keep the association at the forefront of the profession, Helping Chiropractors Help Patients.
