LEADERSHIP Editorial
Erin Dugan, PhD, LPC-S, RPT-S, Chair, APT Board of Directors
As I stepped into the role as Chair of the APT Board of Directors last October, I reflected on the unpredictable year that 2020 was. I learned nothing was set in stone and every day brought valuable insights and importantly I learned that we persevered. I entered 2021 with an abundance of hope, despite the ever- evolving yet continual state of limbo. For many of us,
with the ability to receive the vaccine, play therapists re-opened their clinics to in-person services. It was wild to imagine that more than a year had passed and we continued to persevere and to commit to our professional careers and the patients we serve.
Over the past year, APT continued to promote the “value of play, play therapy, and credentialed play therapists.” Internal reports demonstrated perseverance and growth in APT members, credentialed play therapists, approved centers, graduate institutions offering play therapy courses, and a continued presence on social media. According to APT’s Ends Policies, “The purpose of APT for play therapy is to advance the best APT met, if not exceeded, all Ends Policies remarkably.
The pandemic will continue to bring about unrest, and APT will continue to provide a foundation of support. We are truly fortunate to be part of this dynamic organization whereby members remain committed and connected, but more importantly, persevere together. I look forward to seeing you all in Little Rock!
