LEADERSHIP Editorial
Kathryn Lebby, CAE, CMP APT President/CEO
The celebration continues! Each issue of Play TherapyTM magazine published in 2022 will include a special article commemorating APT’s 40th Birthday. While our March issue glimpsed the beginnings of APT and special milestones, June highlights Diversity in Play Therapy and provides a historical perspective of APT. We thank Edward F. Hudspeth, Jamoki Dantzler, and Christina Villarreal- Davis for authoring this issue’s special article, Celebrating
and Cultivating Diversity in Play Therapy: A 40-year Review (pg. 10).
As we reflect on the topic of diversity and inclusion, we continue exploring new avenues and remain committed to collecting data that helps identify APT Member needs. With more than 82% of APT members sharing demographic data in areas of gender, race, ethnicity, languages spoken, populations served, theoretical orientation, and work setting, APT is better informed than ever before. This data will allow APT to bridge gaps in trainings, services, and resources, while strengthening existing programs.
In addition to collecting demographic data, the APT Board of Directors is reinforcing its linkage with owners (members) through a series of monthly member satisfaction, and the APT E-learning Center. This information provides feedback directly to the Board regarding the perceived value of APT Membership. A third area of data collection was conducted by the the pandemic. We look forward to sharing those results with you later this year. As we work collectively to better understand the needs and values of our members, the APT Board and Staff remain committed to providing a collaborative community that is reflective of our community of highly engaged, vibrant and inclusive play therapy professionals.
