SPECIAL SECTION
is how multicultural materials may differ between play therapist of different theoretical orientations.
Research generated on multicultural issues in the playroom often cover the client and the therapist. There is not enough research on approaches, or how some toys may better meet the needs of children from minority groups. One interesting and fascinating way to research this would be to do a longitudinal study which includes pictures of play therapist playrooms and how playrooms become more inclusive of suggest that clients are diverse, play therapists have become aware of practice and world.
Conclusion Play therapists come from diverse professional identities, including mental health counseling, school counseling, social work, marriage and family therapy, psychology, psychiatry, and psychiatric nursing. Our theoretical orientations across all play therapy theories and into their practice their own layers of diversity. Research and writing about play therapy is varied and has a growing body of evidence incorporating the many aspects of diversity. As an association we are making an intentional effort to change and encourage diversity in our leadership and training, and to support a membership that is as diverse as the clients we serve. We are having the courageous and open conversations, we are introspective, and we will thrive.
