Key Points for New RPT Applicants in 2020 and beyond!
The new RPT application is available for download now, and APT will begin accepting applications on January 1, 2020. New applicants are encouraged to take their time to read through both the RPT Standards and the RPT Application (
https://www.a4pt.org/page/CredentialsHomepage), and to contact review process.
Effective January 1, 2020: 1. Supervised play therapy experience may only be provided by an RPT-S
3. An intentional integration of play therapy instruction, clinical experience, and supervision must occur in three distinct phases*, over a span of no less than two (2) years and no more than seven (7) years
4. Supervisees must be observed by their RPT-S supervisor in at least 5 play therapy sessions: a. at least 1 session in Phase 1 b. at least 2 sessions in Phase 2 c. at least 2 sessions in Phase 3
5. Any play therapy instruction, clinical experience, and/or supervision earned prior to January 1, 2020 should be documented in the NEW application, Appendix I
must be attached to Appendix I of the new application
*The RPT Standards and the RPT Application include an in-depth outline of the three-phase approach for obtaining and documenting play therapy instruction, clinical experience, and supervision.
