BARBARA D. WICK CPCU, ARM, AIS, CIRMS I

f the above name sounds familiar to you then you are not alone. Barbara D. Wick was one of the original trailblazers in the community association insurance world. She is the person many people turned to with questions about the specialized coverage requirements unique to community associations. Barbara was one of the people responsible for starting the nationally recognized Condominium Insurance Risk Management Specialist designation (CIRMS). She was CIRMS #1, and there are now over 140 individuals in the country that hold that designation. Her work was often lauded by the CAI Illinois Chapter, culminating in the creation of the Barbara D. Wick Award in 2001, with Barbara as the very first recipient of the award named in her honor for those individuals who have made significant contributions to CAI on both the local and national level. She died on November 25, 2014 after battling cancer for over a decade.

The insurance professionals that make up the National CIRMS Group of CAI have started a scholarship fund at St. John’s University and its School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actual Science (SRM). This Scholarship Fund was formed to honor the memory of Barbara.

At the 2018 CAI National Conference in Washington, DC it was announced that the second scholarship had been awarded. This scholarship of $1,000 was funded by Friends of Barbara Wick and started with the 2017-2018 academic year. The scholarship is being disbursed as one $500 payment each semester and will be renewable until the student graduates from the School of Risk Management or is no longer eligible.

Please consider making a donation in memory of our dear friend. The scholarship benefits not only those deserving students, but the insurance industry Barbara was part of as well. You can feel assured that your generous donations will benefit future generations of insurance professionals.
