Goals

RYAN DEVLIN, CIT Ice and Turf Supervisor The River’s Edge

City of Davenport Parks and Recreation

Davenport, Iowa

“In a professional capacity, I am always working on meeting our revenue goals. Te River’s Edge is an enterprise facility owned by the City of Davenport. Tis means we are funded by revenue generated through user fees and not by local taxes. Specifically, I am working toward increasing revenue through better utilization of our various advertising mediums and partnerships. Personally, with four daughters ages 3 to 15, I am constantly working to stay on everyone’s good side.”

KAITLYN RANDALL Skating Program Facilitator Brett Memorial Ice Arena Wasilla, Alaska

“My professional goal for the new year is to inspire — whether it be coaching, teaching group lessons or inspiring our ice skating instructors. I want to share my love of skating with all the kids, teens and adults that walk into our rink and show them that we truly do have a place for everyone. Our rink embodies the Ice Sports Industry’s motto of `participation, not elimination.’ Tere is a spot for everyone on our team. I also hope to grow our Teatre on Ice team within the new year. Te Brett is currently the only ISI rink in Alaska with a competitive Teatre on Ice program, and this season our team has grown to include 22 skaters!

“My personal goal for the new year will be to simply live life and focus on enjoying

FOR THE NEW YEAR

With a new year comes renewed energy and resolve to tackle something never done before or to complete a long-overdue goal. With this in mind, we reached out to several industry members to inquire about their professional and/or personal goals for 2018. Here’s what they had to say:

every single day. I have a wonderful life with a beautiful family, and I want to celebrate that every day. I am also going to push myself to try new things and to have confidence in myself!”

DON BALDWIN, PHD Senior Development Specialist

RMSC General Manager Certified Ice Rink Manager (STAR, CIRM)

Lloyd Center Ice Rink Portland, Ore.

“My professional goal is to help five more groups build or operate new ice rinks and to make sure Lloyd Center Ice is the best place to skate! My personal goal is to get started on the [Certified Arena Executive] CAE certification from ISI. I think this may take more than one year.”

DIANE PAUL

Skating School Director Tampa Bay Skating Academy – Oldsmar Oldsmar, Fla.

“My professional goal for the new year is to work together with my amazing team of coaches to breathe a renewed life and enthusiasm into all our programs. It has been a down year for us — as it seems to be in many, if not most, rinks across the country. I was recently inspired by one of the pastors at my church to take an ownership rather than a renter’s mentality when it comes to serving. Tat spurred me to look further into what leaders have had to say on that topic. How do you treat your house, a car, etc. when you rent it as opposed to when you own it? If we step into the rink as an owner each day — no matter what our position is on

“My personal goal for the new year is to take a family vacation to a destination we have never been before. We all need to seize any opportunity to spend time with family and relax. My professional goal for the new year is something I strive for every day: I try to reach out to anyone I see struggling and help them feel more comfortable with the idea of skating — whether I help them tie skates, assist them around the rink a couple times or help them learn a basic technique so they can enjoy their experience. We are all so busy it can be easy to overlook someone in need; it is my goal not to overlook someone in need.”

STEVE NELSON Manager

Dublin Iceland Dublin, Calif.

“My goals are to run our ice rink as best as possible for our customers and owners. If I can keep a good balance and both sides of the business happy then I’m doing my job. We have been in operation for over 40 years and are still going strong.”

paper — it will affect everyone around us and can only bring positive results which ultimately bring more revenue to keep our businesses open and prosperous for all — skaters, parents, coaches, employees and owners.”

AMY BLOMME Lead Manager Crown Center Ice Terrace Kansas City, Mo.
