Jt. Engineering Division Spotlights Current Legislation, Prevailing Wage and More
During AGC’s Joint Engineering
Division Board meeting May 9, Dave Ackerman (DGA Associates and AGC advocate) discussed several key bills making their way through the state legislature. Highlights included the latest on two transportation financing measures (SBx1-1 and AB 1591), a Prevailing Wage Claims bill (AB 326) that would require DIR to refund contractors cash deposit within 30 days of a settlement or dismissal, and more. Eric Rood with the Department of
Industrial Relations addressed the Jt. Engineering board on the details and implications of AB 219, which makes ready-mix drivers subject to prevailing wages for all projects awarded by a public entity on or after July 1, 2016. In addition, Tim Truax, Law Offices of timothy M. Truax PC, and Chris McCandless, Diepenbrock Elkin Gleason LLP, gave a presentation on disgorgement and how contractors can avoid it.
Building Division Looks at Skilled Workforce Requirements
Concurrently with the Jt.
Engineering Division meeting, the Building Division directors met to discuss several topics impacting vertical contractors. “Meeting the Skilled Workforce
Requirements” per SB 566 was a key topic in a panel discussion led by Carrie Bushman, partner at Cook Brown, LLP. She gave a variety of tips for compliance. AGC Grassroots Luncheon The AGC of California
Riverside/Inland Empire District hosted its annual Grassroots luncheon on April 22 to discuss topics affecting the construction industry at both regional and state levels. Over 40 AGC of California members turned out for the grassroots events that was attended by several legislators, including Assembly Member Jose Medina (above, center), Assembly Member Marc Steinorth (right), and Senator Mike Morrell (left). The legislators fielded questions on several leading construction industry issues including water, transportation funding, and Caltrans reform.
