Inspiring Industry Transformation

BY DINA KIMBLE, PRESIDENT, AGC OF CALIFORNIA A

fter serving nearly two years as President of AGC of California, it’s exciting to reflect on the

changes to our association, and the ways that serving in this role have had an impact on my own company and life. While it’s a commitment of time and energy to serve in volunteer leadership, the benefits can be priceless. This opportunity has allowed me to grow and develop as a leader more than I ever could have imagined. I bet that the Past Presidents of AGC

of California all have different reasons for why they pursued leadership opportuni- ties in our association. I’ve been extremely lucky to meet many of the gentlemen who served before me and have truly enjoyed their wisdom, their stories, and their (at times unfiltered) opinions on matters of AGC of California. Tis is a distinguished group, who are/were running some of the most respected construction companies in our state, and who led our association through various challenges and oppor- tunities throughout the past 100 years. Tey are pioneers – and while they don’t always agree with every change we make today, they understand that change is necessary to grow and thrive. Very soon I will be handing the lead-

ership baton to my friend, Steve Rule, and I will have a new opportunity to join the ranks of these Past Presidents. Te stories I hope to tell future leaders of my time as AGC President will include the theme of industry transformation – from how we inspire young people into careers in construction with Build California, to our diversity, equity and inclusion work that helps companies retain and

elevate talent from all backgrounds, to the technological changes that are helping us build projects safely and more effi- ciently, and to our collaboration across association lines to tackle major issues that affect contractors. While the credit for these programs goes to our talented AGC of California staff and our innovative member companies, I hope to be known as a leader who promoted and helped inspire adoption of these changes. Even more importantly, I hope to be

known as a leader who implemented this transformation within our own company and for our own team. I’ve spent 25 years in construction using humor, optimism, vulnerability, and grit to achieve the roles of President at AGC of California and CEO at Royal Electric Company. I am proud to be a part of changing the culture in our association, and in our company, so that young people can use those same traits to solve challenges on a job site, and not just to “survive” in their careers. I hope I have shown them that genuine relationships, and true collaboration, are the key to a fulfilling life and career. The connections and relationships

I’ve made through AGC of California and the impact that I hope I have had on our industry are incredibly special to me. I encourage you all to get involved and serve in volunteer leadership in our association. I assure you, it is time not wasted.
