Tom Shrigley worked for Glasgow Radiator, an automotive repair shop for many years. Later, when Geoff took over the business, he was frustrated with the limited availability of radiator cores. With encouragement from his friends in America, he decided to go into core manufacturing. “And the rest is pretty much history. That’s what we’ve been doing ever since. It’s just gotten bigger and better as the years have gone by,” said Thorpe. Still a family-owned business, G & M Radiator is now run by Geoff’s son Michael Shrigley.


Now in 2021, Thorpe says the company is working hard to keep up with demand. A recent major event that impacted G & M was the bankruptcy of CovRad Heat Transfer Limited, which closed its doors in the UK earlier this year. G & M has since acquired much of their equipment. “I know when it comes to cores alone, we’ll be busy for the next 10-20 years just because of the fact that we’re the only company right now who can supply the OE CovRad-spec core,” said Thorpe.


Another challenge facing the industry right now is a skilled labor shortage. G & M has about 120 employees across all of its divisions and factories. “We’ve got guys
