CLEANUP CONTINUES IN HOUMA, Louisiana after NARSA member Radiator Service Co. was hit by strong winds and heavy rain from Ida and Nicholas.
Radiator Service Co.’s owner David Bienvenu’s homes and business were both impacted by the powerful storms. “We were on the tail end of selling our home we built in 1988 and moving to another home,” said Bienvenu. “Needless to say, we have 2 homes with considerable damage.”
Bienvenu has spent the last few weeks cleaning up with help from his sisters, children, family members, and friends. Fellow NARSA member Bill Rickerman from Affton Radiator drove down more than 700 miles to bring supplies and aid.
“We have a shop/warehouse that lost its roof and a back wall,” said Bienvenu. “Some customer property staged for pick-up was damaged and a whole bunch of wet mess. A panel in our sign blew out and cracked into pieces. Not as bad as it sounds compared to a whole lot of others around. We came out pretty good.”
Ida made landfall August 29, 2021 as a Category 4 hurricane with 150mph winds. It’s considered the second most damaging storm to hit the United States mainland.
Just two weeks later, Nicholas dumped heavy rainfall as a Category 1 hurricane, complicating recovery efforts. More than a million people have been impacted in Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, and the Florida Panhandle.
Bienvenu says all but one of his employees is back at work, and he’s looking for a contractor to repair the shop. “We will have to spend some of my
kids’ inheritance, but they both do well and won’t miss it!” Bienvenu joked. “We have our lives and health and a lot to be grateful for. We are blessed for sure. Life goes on!”
