The same holds true for MBA’s Washington Visit and Target Banker Program. By consistently participating in these programs, Everett has spent time learning from previous MBA chairmen and bank executives. He has seen how they advocated for the banking community with federal and state lawmakers, as well as regulators.
“From someone who sat at the kids table for a long time, now I feel like
I’m getting to sit with the adults,” he said. “I’ve transitioned from being the quiet one in the room to being the one now asking the questions.”
One of Everett’s goals as MBA chairman is to increase the next generation’s involvement with the association.
“I was thrilled with my first experiences at convention, the Washington trip, Target Bankers,” Everett said. “It was a huge deal,
and I wanted to make a difference. We have to give that same opportunity to the next generation.”
That’s exactly what Everett has achieved at Legacy Bank. He is tremendously proud of his staff and their accomplishments, noting that the “great thing about working with a young team is that their energy is boundless.”
“I’ll take passion and energy over experience any day,” Everett said.
This passion and energy bring different perspectives to the banking industry that is constantly evolving. Everett has witnessed numerous changes in banking throughout the past three decades, and he has approached each instance with a lesson learned from his dad.
“If I give my best effort, then I’m going to be OK.”
