EDUCATION & MARKETING

Delivering Exceptional In-Person Experiences By Jackson Hataway, Executive Vice President of Communications, Marketing & Member Services

MBA programs are quickly filling up with people hungry to return to in-person education. In July, we welcomed almost 400 people to Branson for our 131st Annual Convention at the Chateau at the Lake. Bankers, vendors and guests were able to share an exciting, educational convention for a few days together for the first time in more than a year. We were thrilled to see people once again discussing key issues in banking while celebrating the incredible work that banks did over the course of 2020 to assist their customers and their communities.

Moving forward, we believe the appetite for in-person events will only grow. Our calendar is filled with events like the MOKAN Trust Conference, the BSA/AML and Compliance Conferences, the IRA School and the Young Bankers Leadership Conference. We also are developing new programs for deep dives on hot topics like cryptocurrency and fintech. We are excited to work with well-known hotels, as well as new partners, across the state as we build out these events.

Of course, 2021 continues to present new challenges for businesses across the board. Although we hope the worst of the pandemic is behind us, we are now faced with significant economic issues like rising inflation, product shortages and a labor crisis. In the education and event world, that crisis

looks like hotels and restaurants operating with as little as 50% of their normal operating staff, even as they experience an explosive growth in demand from consumers.

We ask for your patience as we navigate these challenges with our service industry partners. Teir intentions are always to provide a world-class experience, but we must be flexible as conditions (hopefully) normalize across the industry. Tey are hiring and training at a rapid pace, but, as we all know, training takes time. If you find one of our partner hotels isn’t as fast to deliver food, as ready to deliver towels or as quick to process check out, just remember that they, like many of your customers, are doing the best they can with the resources they have available.

We remain committed to delivering exceptional in-person experiences, and we will do our part to navigate the hurdles along the way. We look forward to seeing you at the next MBA event on your calendar!
