Summer Staff

CHIP SHERER President

Y

our conference center has en- joyed another wonderful sum- mer of service to thousands of

ARPs and guests from other denomi- nations. We hosted 6,525 guests dur- ing June, July, and August of 2018, and expect our 2019 summer guest totals to be very similar. It takes a small army to host this

number of people. We have 22 full- time staff who are with us year round. However, our full-time staff alone could in no way accomplish all the work that needs to be done to host our summer guests. We are very de- pendent on a group of folks we call our Summer Staff. This month I want to tell you about this group, and, in particular, five members of this Staff. We have 47 people serving on our

Summer Staff in five departments: Guest Services, Food Service, Recre- ation, Front Office, and Gift Shop/ Nibble Nook.

About half of these

folks live locally and will help us dur- ing busy times in the fall and spring. The other half will be with us only for the summer and we provide their housing and meals. Our Guest Services crew performs

the vital tasks of housekeeping, meet- ing room setups, sound/computer needs, and fulfilling guest requests. Food Service does the tremendous job of serving 48,000 meals during the summer months. Our Recreation

staff receives special training so that they can serve as facilitators for our adven- ture activities and serve as lifeguards. Our Front Office staff helps with all the questions and telephone calls our office receives. Our Gift Shop/Nibble Nook staff run these two stores for us. Bonclarken could not function without these hard-working people!

The photo below features five members of our Summer Staff, and all are from

foreign countries. We worked with a company that coordinates international students coming to the United States for summer jobs. Assia Bounachada is from France, Zhen Zhang, Peiying Liang, and Zhen Zhimeng are from China, and Dennis Zhang is from Taiwan. They have been wonderful additions to our staff and each are very hard workers. Assia has studied linguistics and her English is excellent. Our prayer is that the Holy Spirit will work in the hearts of these international students while they are with us this summer! Why did we reach out to a company that coordinates international student workers? It was necessary because we have been having great difficulty in finding enough ARP and other youth to fill all of our job openings. If you have a family member or church member who is looking for a summer job oppor- tunity, encourage them to investigate working for Bonclarken next summer. Mike Dill of our staff coordinates our Sum- mer Staff program. His email is mdill@bon- clarken.org if you have questions about this great opportunity. Our Summer Staff

makes our ministry possible each summer. Please pray for each of these young people as they aid our ministry in such an important way.?
