Bonclarken

We Are Still Here The Moderator has decided to postpone Synod from June 9-11 until August

CHIP SHERER President

18-20. We are blessed that this flexibility with Synod is possible because most of our other summer events cannot postpone. Christian Education Ministries has announced they will make a decision on Horizon, Quest, and all four sessions of Camp Joy on May 1. We have selected June 15 to make a decision on Camp Bonclarken and Music Drama. Family Bible Conference will decide on June 20. We are praying that the thousands of people who come to Bonclarken each

summer and are inspired and renewed in their faith in Jesus Christ have the opportunity to do so.

phone calls from concerned group leaders prior to March 12, this date proved to be the starting line for group cancellations. Most of our groups for March, April, and May canceled. Each March, we host retreats for youth from Catawba, First, Grace, and Second Presbyteries. We were able to host the Senior High Retreat for all four pres- byteries the first weekend in March, but the two middle school retreats later in March were both canceled. How greatly disappointing for a large group of ARP youth to miss out on an opportunity to grow in their faith and make Bonclarken memories. Our Board of Trustees had a special

called meeting March 26 via confer- ence call and adopted several finan- cial recommendations related to our operations through May 31. We are so blessed to have some financial reserves which provide options for us during these challenging times. However, our major concern is our summer season. Should some or all of our summer events cancel, then a host of other issues will be in front of us.

How can you help us? • Please pray for the leaders of our summer events as they seek discernment and wisdom in their decisions.

• Pray for our Board as they make difficult decisions and pray for our staff as they deal with so many uncertainties.

• Share with your friends who love Bonclarken that “we are still here!” Let them know that we are working to address these issues and, by God’s grace, will be ready to serve our guests whenever they return.

• We are hearing of mass layoffs at other conference centers in our area. Pray for those folks and join us in thanking God for His provision that is allowing us to continue to remain open.

Don’t hesitate to reach out to us in any way. We look forward to having you back with us very soon.?
