tive, manicured/wild. People are drawn to this city for one half of these paradoxes, and then find themselves inevitably surrounded by people who were drawn there for the exact opposite reason. In our polarized cultural moment, these tensions often threaten to snap, like a rub- ber band pulled too far. The questions that are vital for Savannah are these: How do we find commonality with those whom we disagree? How do we get along with (let alone love) those who want to be our enemies? Is there an overarching story that can set each side of these tensions in its proper place? As you may know, Savannah College of Art and Design

Between Two Worlds S

Rev. Soren Kornegay, Christ the King, Savannah, GA

Prior to planting Christ the King, Soren and Emma lived in Savannah for 5 years with their sons, Malcolm and Theo. While working for Reformed University Fellowship at the Savannah College of Art and Design, they fell in love with this city of tensions. Believing that only the biblical story of God’s love for us can reconcile us to our neighbor, they hope to plant a church that exalts Christ as King while training disciples to love those who are different from them.

avannah is a city of contrasts and tensions: conser- vative/liberal, black/white, religious/irreligious, traditional/creative, rich/poor, historic/innova-

is one of the most prestigious art schools in the country and is internationally-recognized. Several of our participants at Christ the King also work there or are involved in creative fields. Working together to take the good news of the King- dom out into all of life, we have begun a ministry called “Be- tween Two Worlds” to support Christian in the city. We are striving to support Christian creatives by providing a commu- nity of artists of faith, conversations about the role of faith in art, and contexts for work to be displayed. At our first meeting, author, comedian, TED speaker

and CTK participant Harrison Scott Key (The World’s Larg- est Man and Congratulations! Who Are You Again?) spoke on the role of faith and art. It was extraordinarily well attended- clearly we are scratching an itch in the city! Our next meeting will be a curated art show along the theme of “Boundaries.”?

Prayer Requests

Please continue to pray for us: 1. We want CTK to be known as a church that believes in extending the Kingdom into all of life, much as we have already demonstrated with our artists’ community. Pray for this group, and for Soren as he attempts to start a similar group for medical professionals in Savannah.

2. Pray for another new members class. We have eight new people interested in joining. Pray that they would be compelled by the vision of CTK, and that they would join us.

3. Pray for our fundraising. We have been blessed to meet in the building we are currently meeting in, but we are restricted to using it on Sundays. It is our hope that, with enough support from our congregation and donors, we can secure it full- time soon.
